Wind Farm

As a part of its foray into the power sector, the company, in the year 1995, established a Wind Farm Power Project of 2.025 MW capacity at Ramagiri, Anantapur District in the State of Andhra Pradesh. The Non Conventional Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NEDCAP) had allotted this project to DCL for the captive use of the electrical energy generated to partly meet its energy requirements at its cement plant. The Company has a Wind Power Wheeling and Banking Agreement with APTRANSCO for evacuating the power generated.

thermalThe Wind Farm is spread over an area of 43.60 acres and the installation consists of the following:

1. A battery of 9 Nos of 225 KW Wind Turbine Generators (WTG), each consisting of a tubular steel tower (28.7 M height), a nacelle consisting of a set of fiber glass rotor blades, a helical gear box, and a 400 volts Induction Generator of 1500 RPM.

2. Electrical installation consisting of 400 Volts X 11 KV Transformers for each tower, with capacitor banks which in turn is connected to a 2500 KVA centralized transformer for stepping up from 11 KV to 33 KV, with necessary protection equipment and connected to the nearest interconnecting point of APTRANSCO's 33/132 KV line.

3. Control system consisting of pivotable tips for fail-safe braking, automatic wind speed cut-in and cut-out control built in data processor via modem with computerised management system.

This Wind Farm has been contributing over 3 Million units of power per/annum for captive use in the company's cement plant.
